What is Rotary Family Health Days?

Rotarians for Family Health & AIDS Prevention, Inc. (RFHA) is a global Rotarian Action Group and mobilizing partner of Rotary International dedicated to disease prevention and treatment.  RFHA programs provide free multiple health screens, lifesaving immunizations, education on disease prevention and treatment and referrals for follow-on care that would otherwise not be accessible. RFHA’s direct impact is the strengthening of infrastructure on health care delivery systems worldwide.

RFHA’s signature program is Rotary Family Health Days, a unique public/private partnership program that is currently in its seventh year of operation. This three-day, annual program provides holistic, comprehensive, preventative health programs (both of infectious and non-communicable diseases) by way of leveraging and inspiring a massive force of humanitarian-driven volunteers through Rotary clubs in multiple countries in Africa and India.

In 2016, this 3-day campaign operated 407 health camp sites through the efforts of over 375 Rotary Clubs and 5,000+ Rotarians, Rotaractors and community volunteers. The sites were located across Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda and India. Service was delivered to 423,795 patients. Since the inception of Rotary Family Health Days in 2011, over 1.6 million patients have been offered over 4.4 million free health services.

Offerings include health screens for HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, TB, malaria, diabetes, blood pressure and some cancers. Deworming, vitamin A supplements and immunizations for polio and measles are provided. Add-on services such as eye and dental examinations are included at many locations.  Mental health counseling, educational and referral services for follow-on care are provided. Distribution of free insecticide treated bed nets, male and female condoms, hygiene packs, eye readers, dental cleaning supplies and other materials are also offered to clients in areas of need and availability.

Rotary Family Health Days is a public/private partnership where the partners are RFHA, Rotary Clubs, national and local Ministries of Health, CDC and USAID, private sector corporations and foundations, in-country NGO’s and media.
